ATLANTA – Farida Mzamber Waziri (Mrs.) OFR, retired Inspector General of Police (AIG) and the current executive chairman of Nigeria’s main anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been honored by the Mutual Union of TIV in America (MUTA) at its 18th annual national convention in Atlanta. The EFCC czar was amongst three distinguished members of the TIV indigenes honored at the convention. The other honorees include; Steve D. Ugbah, PH.D and Dr. Monica Hemben Eimunjeze, Pharm D.
A trained Lawyer, Mrs. Waziri obtained her law degree from the University of Lagos as well as a masters degree in law from the Lagos State University and another masters degree in strategic studies from the university of Ibadan. Mrs. Waziri enlisted into the Nigerian police force in 1966 and rose through the ranks to become Assistant Inspector General Of Police (AIG). Late former President Umaru Yar’Adua appointed Mrs.Waziri Executive chairman of EFCC in May 2008. She has since distinguished herself in the fight against financial crimes and has several high profile convictions to her credit while several more are pending in the Law courts.
Dr. Ugbah is a Professor of Marketing and entrepreneurship at California State University, President of ComFax consulting, LLC and chairman Tiv development fund. Dr. Ugbah has demonstrated to MUTA the meaning of integrity during his 10 year tenure as MUTECO chair. Eimunjeze is a Doctor of pharmacy and a licensed pharmacist in the USA as well as the technical assistant to the Director General of the National Agency for Food and drug administration and control in Nigeria. As a member of MUTA, she chaired the Health fair committee, an initiative she formulated and worked tirelessly towards its success.
His Excellency, Rt. Hon Gabriel Suswan had earlier attended and contributed during the plenary sessions and had to depart to attend to other official matters. Members of MUTA arrived from various Cities in the USA to ensure that the 18th convention was a worthy event. Comments during the event revealed that the 2010 edition of the convention had attracted an unprecedented turn out or participants.
The Chair of the 2010 convention; Mrs. Jennifer Ehimika in a closing remark expressed her appreciation to all members and guests for the unflinching support towards the successful hosting of the convention. The convention also received a citation form the Georgia secretary of state, Brian P. Kemp who mentioned that the Tiv American foundation Atlanta chapter was committed to serving local communities through volunteering, sponsorships, education, fundraising and a variety of events.
