Atlanta – Ms. Chiamaka Abanofor has been crowned as the new Miss West Africa USA 2011 after the resignation of Ms. Mahja Zeon from her role as Miss West Africa USA 2011 to pursue a law degree. Zeon prevailed over 20 other contestants to become the first ever winner of the Miss West Africa USA pageant on July 7, 2011. However, given the many commitments to and responsibilities of the role, Zeon has opted out to concentrate fully on her legal career.
Meanwhile, Chimaka Abanofor is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in anesthesiology and criminology at the University of West Georgia. Her platform, Knowledge Beyond Restrictions, (or Empowerment Through Education), is inspired by her mission and vision of bettering her motherland Africa. As an International Liaison of her family’s non-profit, non-governmental organization, the Cyprian Abanofor Foundation, she collects books, clothes, shoes and other essentials from her peers and acquaintances in the U.S for Nigerian and African children and youths in need.
“I have no doubt that our organization’s partnership with Ms. Abanofor will be nothing but success,” Thomas stated assuredly. “We can’t wait to start working with her on her platform and all the ventures that comes with being associated with our organization. It will definitely be another adventurous and wonderful opportunity for all of us.” Abanofor also plans to work in partnership with international organizations such as ECOWAS, UN, UNICEF, and broaden the reach of her family’s foundation, with the goal of making sure that every African child and youth has the education necessary to develop their skills and potentials to become the independent and productive individuals they can be. Her ultimate goal is to one day become the first female president of Nigeria.
The Miss West Africa USA pageant grooms and empowers young, intelligent, beautiful and talented ladies of West African descent to be leaders in today’s society. Contestants are given the opportunity to showcase their talent with a platform of their choice.
Miss West Africa USA Beauty Pageant is sponsored by the Hope of Africa Organization, a non-profit that empowers young women and children to become better productive citizens in their community, reaches out to orphans and HIV victims in West Africa, and supplies educational resources to the underprivileged in West Africa.
