Artist honor Christy Essien Igbokwe at classic concert in Lagos

Ikeja – A Red Carpet Tribute Night in honour of the Lady of Songs practically shook the foundation of the famed Niteshift Coliseum in Lagos with spectacular fireworks display, 500 square meters of fluffy red carpet and unforgettable special performances by “the Five Divas”, a selection of five of Nigeria’s best female voices representing five different generations to mark the five decades which Christy Essien Igbokwe who died at 50 lived.

The Five Divas were backed by a reconstituted Goldtrain Orchestra, Christy Essien’s backing band. The divas include; Queen of Soul, Onyeka Onwenu representing what Chief Tony Okoroji who introduced them, called the Trail Blazers; Sparkling Stella Monye representing the Successors, vivacious Yinka Davies representing the Inheritors; Screen Princess, Stella Damasus holding forth for the Fire Generation and little Chidimma flying the flag of the Prospect Generation.

There were also scintillating performances on the night of stars by Christy Esssien Igbokwe’s second son, Kaka, Sunny Neji and Ras Kimono who gave a performance of his life.
