Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen asked William Troost-Ekong to take what proved to be the match-winning penalty in their Group A victory over Ivory Coast at the on going Africa Cup of Nations.
Osimhen, the 25-year-old Napoli star, and African Footballer of the Year, was fouled early in the second half to win the spot-kick and is the team’s designated penalty taker.
Nigeria took a huge step towards reaching the last 16 at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win over hosts Ivory Coast in Group A.
At the time of this release, Nigeria is second in Group A and are behind leaders Equatorial Guinea, who beat Guinea-Bissau 4-2 earlier on Thursday, on goal difference.
