Twenty-seven-year-old Gabby Thomas earned her first Olympic gold medal, and her third career medal, by winning the Women’s Track & Field 200m at Stade de France during the Olympic Games Paris 2024 on Tuesday. Thomas ran in lane seven, taking the race lead by the end of the turn and winning the 200m dash in 21.83 seconds.
This monumental result in Paris adds to Thomas’ already-impressive Olympic accolades, accompanying her silver (4×100-meter relay) and bronze (200m) medals at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Thomas arrived in Paris with momentum, winning the 200m at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in June, where she became the second-fastest 200m sprinter in U.S. Track and Field history in the process. She also posted a world-lead time of 21.78 seconds.
Outside of the Olympic Games, Thomas has a remarkable résumé in her young and budding career. She claimed gold in the 200m at the 2023 U.S. Track and Field Championships, also posting the world-lead time and the meet record.
Additionally, she won gold and broke the collegiate record in the 200m at the 2018 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships as a student-athlete for Harvard University and claimed 22 conference titles in six different events.
