Lagos State: US Envoy Lauds Fashola’s Agric Scheme

United States Agriculture Attaché in Nigeria, Mr. Ali Abdi, has commended the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) for initiating the Agriculture Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES), saying it is the path to meaningful agricultural development in the state and Nigeria.  

He said the programmme showed a real commitment to address the issue of food shortage in the state and promoting the economic development of the state especially in the area of employment generation at the local level.

Speaking at an interactive session with students of the Lagos Agric-YES programme at Araga, Epe in Lagos, on “Role of Agriculture in Community Development”, Abdi tasked the students to live up to the expectation of them in boosting food production in the state, adding that if efforts like this is initiated in other parts of the country, it would spur agriculture revolution in the country.

He said the US government, like every other government around the world, was concerned about the devastating effects climate change hence the Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, adding that the US is especially concerned about how it affects agricultural production in Africa. 
The United States is concerned about the negative effects of climate change an all facets of life of people around the globe, he said at the interactive session with the students.  

According to him, despite the challenges of climate change, Nigeria still has a climate that supports agricultural production all the year round, explaining that the government needs to take advantage of that by giving more boosts to agriculture.
