The newly appointed Art, Culture and Creative Economy minister Hannatu Musawa is being dragged to court for being an active National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member. This was filed on Wednesday by Samuel Ihensekhien Jnr, on behalf of Deji Adeyanju and Dr. Patrick Osagie Eholor the suit numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/1198/2023, are seeking her disqualification for allegedly being a serving corps member. They are also inquiring about her alleged membership of the All-Progressives Congress (APC).
Both activists view her appointment as illegal. According to Samuel Ihensekhien Jnr, Musawa has not completed the compulsory one-year youth service and should not be qualified to be appointed a minister in Nigeria, since the Constitution has set the same qualifications for contesting during the elections and as a minister.
The suit is praying for five distinct reliefs and other ancillary/mandatory consequential injunctions in this matter. There has been no set date for the hearing.
