Cheadle, Lawrence and Tarantino win Golden Globes Statuettes

The Golden Globe for best actor in a television comedy or musical series went to Don Cheadle for “House of Lies.”  This marked Cheadle’s second win. The actor previously won a Golden Globe for the television drama “The Rat Pack” in 1998.

Quentin Tarantino won best screenplay for “Django Unchained” and ”Silver Linings Playbook” star Jennifer Lawrence won the best actress in a comedy or musical movie Golden Globe.

Hosted by NBC Network sitcom stars Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California  other winners included the musical drama ”Les Miserables” which won for best comedy or musical film and “Argo” which won the big award of the night for best motion picture drama.

Christoph Waltz was awarded the Globe for best supporting actor in a movie for his role in Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” and Hugh Jackman won the Globe for best actor in a movie comedy or musical for “Les Miserables.”

The best actor accolade went to Daniel Day-Lewis for his portrayal of the 16th American president in Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” while Jessica Chastain, who played a CIA analyst in “Zero Dark Thirty,” won best actress in a drama movie.

 

Former President Bill Clinton  who received a standing ovation when walked onstage was also in attendance and appeared to introduce a clip of best picture nominee “Lincoln.”

“President Lincoln’s struggle to abolish slavery reminds us that enduring progress is forged in a cauldron of both principal and compromise,” Clinton continued. “This brilliant film shows us how he did it and gives us hope that we can do it again,”  he said.
