Grammy award winning singer Bruno Mars, actors Idris Elba and Tiffany Haddish received multiple NAACP Image Awards at the 49th award show. Mars earned Image awards for best video and song for “That’s What I Like”and took home a 3rd for best male artist. Idris Elba received a supporting actor award for the Marvel movie “THOR: Ragnarok” and the best TV actor prize for his Showtime drama “Guerrilla,” while Haddish nabbed a supporting actress award for “Girls Trip and one for character voice-over performance for Comedy Central’s “Legends of Chamberlain Heights.” The awards were announced during a gala dinner celebration on Sunday at the Pasadena Conference Center.
The event was hosted by The Real’s Adrienne Houghton, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai and Tamera Mowry-Housley.
Winners in 47 categories were announced during the event. The remaining 9 categories and Entertainer of the Year will be announced during the two-hour star-studded 49th NAACP Image Awards which will broadcast on TV One today.
Other winners of the non-televised categories for the 49th NAACP Image Awards included Jordan Peele, who won a director’s award for the horror drama “Get Out” and Queen Latifah who won for the Lifetime drama “Flint.” The movie “Detroit” was awarded with the Outstanding Independent Motion Picture accolade.
