Oscar-nominated actress Danielle Brooks has been tapped as host of the 2024 Black Girls Rock! Awards. This celebration of Black women’s excellence is returning to television this year and has previously honored luminaries such as Michelle Obama, Rihanna, Regina King, Angela Davis and Janet Jackson.
Brooks, who received a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for “The Color Purple,” is known for her role in “Orange is the New Black,” and will host the annual event which will be taped at the Fox Theatre on June 27 and air August 1 on Lifetime.
There will be tributes to Tracee Ellis Ross, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Fantasia and Stephanie Mills. The event will also honor singer and actress Fantasia.
