Topping the list with six nominations is Chris Brown for Best Male R&B Artist, Best Collaboration, Video of the Year, Best Actor and Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice. Kanye West, Drake, and Lil Wayne are also nominated in the Best Male Hip-Hop Artist circle with Nicki Minaj headlining the Best Female Hip-Hop category.
For the Best Female R&B Artist category, contenders Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson, Keri Hilson, Marsha Ambrosius and Beyoncé will battle it out for the crown. Ri-Ri is also nominated in two other categories: Best Female R&B Artist and Best Collaboration. Africa’s top artists; 2Face Idibia, D’Banj, D-Black, Angelique Kidjo, Fally Ipupa and Teargas are all competing for the Best International Act category. It’s a family affair for actor Jaden Smith and singer Willow Smith. Jaden, who has proved that he’s a bankable box-office star with his breakout role in ‘The Karate Kid’ remake is up for BET’s YoungStars Award, while sister, Willow, is nominated for Best New Artist for her catchy track ‘Whip My Hair.’
In the acting division, Afro-British heartthrob Idris Elba snagged a Best Actor nomination and will battle it out with Jamie Foxx, Laz Alonso and Don Cheadle. The two-time NBA MVP, LeBron James, is nominated for the BET Subway Sportsman of the Year while Serena Williams and sister Venus will vie for The BET Subway Sportswoman of the Year. Kevin Hart will host the 2011 BET Awards, which is scheduled to air live June 26 from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
