“Thank you for betting on me, I’m going to keep stepping up,” says Oscar Winner Michael B. Jordan

“Sinners” may have only won 4 of the 16 Oscar nominations the Academy heaped on the film, but the speeches the winners delivered were the most memorable. The horror drama directed by Ryan Coogler earned him his first Oscar for Original screenplay. Once onstage, Coogler steered away from the usual cookie-cutter speech and although he thanked the film’s studio, cast and crew, more importantly, he dedicated the trophy to his family.

Michael B. Jordan – ‘I stand here because of the people that came before me’

“Zinzi, you’re the best wife and mom in the world. Every day I get to spend with you is better than the one that came before it. And to my parents who are here, thank you for all the memories. Thank you for making me believe in myself. And to my babies that are at home watching, I apologize for all the time away. Dad loves you. Memories are all we have. I hope I’ll give you some great ones.”

Thank you for believing in me and thank you for trusting me.” And that’s the kind of guy that I get to make films with, she shared onstage. “He’s a very, very honorable person. And he means it. And he really, truly means it. And I feel like I had to meet him. I’m so honored to be here, and I really want all the women in the room to stand up, because I feel like I don’t get here without you guys. I really, really, truly mean that.

I have felt so much love from all the women on this whole campaign and gotten to meet so many people.
