At the 2025 World Cassava Day ceremony, a first-of-its-kind event in Nigeria, sponsored by Agbeyewa Farms and Cavista Holdings, Nigeria Vice President Kashim Shettima revealed the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s vision to leverage cassava as a key driver of industrial development and import substitution in Nigeria.

The ceremony, themed “Farm to Global Markets: Driving Industrialization, Food Security and Exports,” was attended by key stakeholders in the cassava value chains in Nigeria, as well as representatives from the governments of China and Brazil. Shettima praised Agbeyewa Farms for keying into President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s vision to harness cassava’s potential for industrial growth. He noted that the government’s agenda prioritizes private capital, research, and coordinated action to drive mechanization, agro-processing, quality inputs, and full commercialization of cassava.
The Vice President applauded Agbeyewa’s vision to make cassava an export substitution item and a good substitute to drive Nigeria’s industry across the entire cassava value chain. He emphasized the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s commitment to moving from subsidy-heavy programs to investment-led solutions, aiming to strengthen rural livelihoods, ensure national food and energy security, and reengineer the nation’s economy.
Shettima also used the occasion to commend John Olajide, Chairman of Agbeyewa Farms, for his bold investment drives in Nigeria and Africa, describing his efforts as a testament to the potential for entrepreneurship and job creation to drive economic growth.
