Trailer debuts for Ava DuVernay’s racially charged drama “When They See Us”

Based on a true story, “When They See Us” chronicles the notorious case of five black teenagers who were convicted of a rape. Labeled the Central Park Five, the teenagers from Harlem — Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise were convicted of a rape they did not commit and were finally exonerated, and a settlement was reached with the city of New York just a few years ago.

It’s a racially charged drama of injustice that gripped the country and the DuVernay directed drama is a four-part limited series which begins in the spring of 1989, when the teenagers were first questioned about the incident, spanning 25 years, highlighting their exoneration in 2002 and the settlement reached with the city of New York in 2014.

A star-studded cast which stars Michael K. Williams, Vera Farmiga, John Leguizamo, Felicity Huffman, Emmy Award Nominee Niecy Nash, Blair Underwood, Adepero Oduye, Jovan Adepo, Aunjanue Ellis, Storm Reid and Asante Blackk, it premieres on Netflix May 31st.
