Mayflower Alumni Meet in San Antonio

The Alamo and the River Walk both make San Antonio, Texas a tourist haven. It’s historical values cannot be overemphasized. No wonder San Antonio is the 2nd largest city in Texas and the choice venue for the 10th Convention of Mayflower School, Ikenne, Ogun State, Nigeria. The re-launch of Ex-Mays global endowment fund, inauguration of the new executive and the presentation of awards formed the highlights of the epoch event. Ex-Mays arrived from Nigeria and various other cities in the USA. Ex-Mays in attendance included; Dr. Daniel Osaro, Dr. Wale Omole, Dr. Rotimi Akinlesi, Engr. Lekan Adeniji, Dr. Tope Soares, Tony Orekoya among other distinguished members.

Mayflower School was founded on January 31, 1956 by Dr. Tai Solarin, a Nigerian educator, humanist and civil rights pioneer, who was married to Sheila Mary Tuer, a Swiss woman. It is located on a vast piece of land in Ikenne, Ogun State, Nigeria. Mayflower preaches a very strong educational philosophy grounded in self-reliance, self-sacrifice, public service and physical toughness. In Solarin’s words, the students must be “rugged.” Since the school was first established, in the boarding house, female students are forbidden from using any form of cosmetics.The school’s motto is “Knowledge is Light” and it is noted for the outstanding quality of its graduates, many of whom are leaders in Nigeria and abroad.
