Meet the Women of ‘Sin City’

From a salacious stripper, a precarious prostitute to a gold-digging girlfriend, the women of Frank Millers “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” are a bunch of malevolent misfits. A live-action neo-noir film filled with flawed heroes and vile villains, Robert Rodriguez’s sequel to 2005’s “Sin City” sees the return of Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson. New additions to the cast include Eva Green, Jamie Chung and Lady Gaga.

Filmed with stark black-and-white with occasional splashes of color, Jessica Alba reprises her role of stripper Nancy Callahan, a scorned woman seeking to revenge the death of lover. “I couldn’t be further from this as a person. I am a mother of two little girls and my day to day is sleeping schedules, meetings at school and running an honest company.  I get to play a bad-ass alcoholic stripper who is seeking revenge and that’s pretty cool,” shares Alba.

“My character is compulsive liar and it’s a challenge in this film to play a character that is totally believable, but lies all the time and it’s such a multidimensional role,” shares Bond girl Eva Green. As Ava Lord, the dame of the title, she’s a gold digger who relies heavily on her sex appeal and charisma to conquer her men. “She’s so bad and has no sense of right or wrong and she is very evil so it was really a challenge to play her.”

As Gail, Rosario Dawson is the iron-fisted leader of the town’s prostitutes who takes pride in her position. “She is the fiercest of Amazon warriors and will lay her life down for any of the girls. She is one of the most outrageous characters I’ve ever played,” says Dawson. “You’re coming back and playing characters that you’ve played before, but there is this whole other excitement in the way that we’re shooting as it’s in 3D. It’s been a remarkable thing to make someone like her come to life as she screams out of the page.”

“You have no idea what she is thinking as she always has this cold stone stare,” says newcomer to the franchise, Jamie Chung, who plays a female assassin called Miho.  Silent but deadly, Miho was originally played by Devon Aoki in the prequel, but after the filmmakers learned she was pregnant Chung stepped in as her replacement. “I am doing all these stunts like flipping thirty-six times and wielding a sword without even exhaling, but it was a lot of fun.” Lady Gaga makes a small cameo appearance as a waitress called Bertha.

Rated R for strong stylized violence, nudity and sexual content, “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” is set for release on August 22nd and also stars Mickey Rourke,  Powers Booth, Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ray Liotta,  Christopher Meloni and Dennis Haysbert.
