Hollywood, CA – “It’s an animated series about a girl called “Doc” who communicates with, and heals her stuffed animals, and is the first time the Network has featured an African American lead on an animated series. Showcasing the hallmarks of great Disney storytelling, “Doc Mcstuffins,” tells the story of a nurturing six-year-old girl, who can talk to the stuffed animals and toys that she cares for in her playhouse clinic. Whether it’s a case of loose stitching or low batteries, whenever Doc puts on her stethoscope, toys, dolls and all the stuffed animals in the neighborhood come to life.

Featuring the voice of 13 year-old Kiara Muhammad, “Doc Mcstuffins ” is created and executive-produced by Humanitas Prize and Emmy Award-winning Chris Nee (producer of “Deadliest Catch: Crab Fishing in Alaska”) and is a rarity in television, as it’s a show with an African American lead character. “She is the first female African American lead for a Disney animated show, and she is a fabric of our life. We have sold the show around the world,” says Nee, who drew her inspiration for the series from her young son, who developed severe asthma when he was 2 years-old. After seeing her own child’s anxiety about going to the doctor, she decided to come up with an idea for a show that could help make the process of going to the doctor less scary for kids.
An animated series that builds confidence in children, it shows kids how to deal with different situations, especially pertaining to health, hygiene and medical care. Doc and her pals, Stuffy, an exceedingly proud dragon, Lambie, her cuddly best friend, and Hallie a jolly hippo, are always there to lend a helping hand, while informing young viewers on the importance of taking care of oneself.
“It’s a really a fun show that tells you about hygiene in a fun way,” adds Muhammad who voices Doc. Each episode will feature two 11-minute stories in which Doc and her friends diagnose the situation, and nurture the toy in need. Music also plays a prominent role with each episode featuring an original song that conveys the health lesson that Doc and her friends learn that day. The “Doc McStuffins” voice cast includes: Kiara Muhammad as Doc; Loretta Devine as Hallie; Lara Jill Miller as Lambie; Robbie Rist as Stuffy; Jess Harnell as Chilly; Jaden Betts as Donny McStuffins; Kim Brooks as Mom McStuffins; and Gary Anthony Williams as Dad McStuffins. Aimed at kids age 2-7 “Doc McStuffins” airs on the Disney Junior block on Disney Channel.
