FIFA U-17: Switzerland Celebrates 1:0 Victory over Hosts Nigeria

ABUJA – And the games came to an end. Nigeria hoped for the cup but Switzerland seemed to have a better need for it. The game was worthy of a final play as both teams gave their best. The Swiss are the 2009 U 17 champions with a 1-0 win over Nigeria.

LAGOS – Nigeria beat Spain 3-1 in the semi-final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Lagos. The Spaniards never quite looked up for the contest, a re-play of the 2007 final, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, as the Golden Eaglets continue to improve with every outing here on home soil. Nigeria will face Switzerland in Abuja.

CALABAR –

Should Nigeria get to the final and win the Cup on the 15th of this month, it will be its fourth time in the FIFA cadet championship and another record as the first country to host and win the title. The last match of these finals from the U. J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar was played amid a party atmosphere as the home side put on a show of edging out the talented Asians.

The Nigerians came out flying from the start, roared on by a lively packed house of adoring local fans. Abdul Ajagun had them out of their seats after only two minutes, but his shot from a tough angle could only shave the outside of the back post. Omoh Ojabu had the ball in the net after 10 minutes when he chased down a long ball from midfield, but referee Howard Webb called the try back for offside.
