Houston – The 2013 edition of the annual Nigeria Fashion and beauty awards held recently at the Hilton Houston Southwest Hotel. Awardees and attendees arrived from various cities in the USA and they were all characteristically clad in traditional and cultural attires.

The event is a concept of Founding Fathers Incorporated (FFI), an artist management and fashion entertainment outfit. NFB is a program designed to recognize and honor those that have significantly impacted the indigenous fashion, and have enhanced the ethnic fashion values in the last one year.  o develop, promote and showcase various indigenous fashion, textiles, accessories and beauty products as a branch of Nigeria’s rich arts and culture.

In line with this year’s focus on craftsmanship, Vlisco puts its iconic designs in the spotlight with a new fabric collection that celebrates our rich design heritage. Vlisco’s fabrics have long been known for their expressive designs. It’s just one of the things that make our brand so unique and beloved by our consumers. The Hommage à l’Art collection pays tribute to Vlisco’s designs in a number of ways; from the feminine florals that draw on our Indonesian batik heritage to hand-drawn abstract designs and our beloved heritage designs.

The collection‘s calm colour palette was inspired by a pile of fabrics found in Vlisco’s archives. These once belonged to a trader who approached Vlisco many years ago with the request to create fabrics in these colours. To capture the essence of Hommage à l’Art in the campaign, Vlisco collaborated with Maarten Spruyt, a renowned art- and fashion stylist and photographer Koen Hauser, who is known for his timeless style.

The collection’s matching line of scarves also pay tribute to Vlisco’s famous figures. Each of the four 100% silk scarves features a cleverly created collage of cut-outs of heritage designs such as the Jumping Horse, Fan and Eyes. Shadows, visible stitching, pen markings and sewing paraphernalia such as pin boxes and scissors bring the designs to life and add an unfinished edge and a touch of humour to the four scarves.

Columbia, MD – The historic Oakland Mills in Columbia was the choice venue for the upscale 3rd annual fashion show hosted by seasoned bespoke design house; 4 J Couture. As expected, the event attracted lovers of clean cuts and unique designs just as most of them arrived the red carpet styled event adorned in 4 J couture outfits.

Head designer at 4 J Couture Ernest Lyonga was on hand to interact with guests just as he took time to explain the inspiration behind the designs while  the professional models on site hit the runway to the delight of invitees and buyers.

Dallas – Victory entertainment and partners obviously went a step ahead to ensure a unique blend of quality entertainment at the third edition of Ankara Fest; a Dallas based celebration of African Culture. The 2013 edition featured performances by; Lawale Victory, Yinka Farinde, Lost Angel and Chanel Bracy.

The event also featured hot styles from super hot talented Dallas based designers and models, great cuisine including Suya and great media support by Trendy Africa and Victory Media Pro.
