Dr. Nurudeen A. Olowopopo (R.I.P): The passing of a great Physician and Gentleman

Top Chicago OBGYN and until recently, Chairman of LUTH management board Dr. Nurudeen Olowopopo is dead. According to reports from Lagos, he died at his home in Ikeja, Lagos.

Dr. Olowopopo was an active member of the Eko Club International USA with whom he had embarked on a series of humanitarian medical missions. He had been at several times instrumental to the supply of free medical amenities to Lagos State in Nigeria.

He would be remembered by all as a very humble and unassuming gentleman. The Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola and other top Government officials had paid a condolence visit to the family. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Governor of Lagos State and a close friend to the Olowopopo family has also received sympathisers on behalf of the family.

The management and staff of Trendy Africa hereby sympathise with the Olowopopo family.

Dr. Nurudeen Olowopopo was a great Nigerian nationalist, great doctor, a complete gentleman, and a philantropist. He was a man of principle. He loved people and he gave to all and sundry. Nurudeen will be sorely missed by all of us-especially my wife Cordelia and I. As the founding president of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) I worked closely with Nurudeen on the Board of Trustees and in the Nominating Committee and he was a committee man-I can say that Nurudeen heilped me and other colleagues to direct the “ship” so well that he was one of the backbones of ANPA. I remembered fully well how he, myself, Dr. Festus Dada, Dr. Clement Nwosu, and Dr. Charles Mbanefo worked with other Board members to avert a major crisis during the annual convention in Atlanta. I would always miss him. Always full of smiles. May he Rest in Peace. May God continue to Bless and protect Cilia, his wife, and their beautiful children. OMO LUWABI ! ! ! OMO EKO !!! I know you are in paradise. We love you and we shall pray for your soul always.

    Respectfully,

I am going to miss an abundance of activities with him ( African Fest, Soccer on 663rd street, Nigerian Parade, Talking to him for Support) in which we enjoyed together. My stomach turns every time I think of the moment I received the phone call. Who would have guess this would happen??? My sincere sympathy goes out to my Auntie Cilla/Lizzy/Claire, my cousin Launrey/Sherri, my Cousin Teke/Sime?Blessing, Lil Cuz Raheem and Kudus. I Love You ALL and We will Get Through This All!

Dr Nurudeen Olowopopo is a legend I will greatly missed. He earned my honor and great respect for his commitment and dedication to the community. His love for Nigeria and fellow countrymen is nonpareil, No wonder his transition to greater heights where noone has control of his being was in Nigeria where he loves to be. You are one in a million – Dr Nurudeen Olowopopo. You have manifested yourself, the legacy you left behind. May the good lord comfort and console your wife Celia, children and all your loved ones, Dr Shafdeen Amuwo and host of others. ‘Am touched by your death but God loves you more than we all do. Thank God for your enviable lovely life well spent. A Tunji Kalejaiye

  13. David Burtker says:

I had the privilege and honor of legally representing Dr. Nurudeen Olowopopo for over 20 years in Chicago, Illinois USA. Over that time period, I have had no more honorable and respected client than Dr. Olowopopo. His dedication and committment to bringing the best of medicine to people with the greatest need, both in the United States and Nigeria, showed that his heart and soul was in the right place. Both communities have lost a great doctor, and like I, have lost a great friend. Rest in peace, Dr. Olowopopo

  14. Seaton says:

He was my mother’s gynocologist for years, she talked about how sweet he was and I met him personally and he seemed to have a great personality. My mother just found out a couple of days ago. This is really heartbreaking for her.

  15. Lakesha says:

Dr Olow was the best. I just found out that he was decreased. My heart is soon heavy. He delivered my three children. God has definitely received an Angel.
