Anthony Aduayi (1939-2014): A tribute

Penultimate three weeks past, my dear Uncle, Mr. Anthony Adokue Aduayi (1939-2014) was laid to rest in Lagos Nigeria at a befitting ceremony put together by his immediate family. Uncle Anthony as we fondly called him was a kind hearted and ever cheerful jolly good fellow. I remember his electronics sales and repair store on Hubert Macaulay Street Yaba, Lagos where he always entertained my family (late 70’s and 80’s) each time we visited Lagos from our Ile-Ife base. He always fascinated me with all the electronic diodes he toyed with and the wiring boards of grounded electronic appliances. Our Grundig TV set of old visited his store on several occasions.

Uncle Anthony always had the latest party Jams especially those of music Icons such as Fela, Ebenezer Obey and Sunny Ade. He was actually contracted to maintain concert amplifiers and equipment for most Nigerian veteran musicians. He was a very successful electronics engineers. Whenever we traveled to Anecho on vacation, he would lighten up “Kwale Ville” with vibes from an antique gramophone. Uncle generally had a smile on his face and was known to be very soft spoken. He loved the good life too. Your memories will surely linger on. RIP.
